Well, my mind is wandering again. I know, incredibly dangerous. Latest thoughts are on building a B-Spec Fiat 500 to race at Mission. The B-Spec series was created to allow B-segment cars (Fiat 500, Ford Fiesta, Mazda 2, etc) a cheap way of spec racing where power, handling, and weight are almost equal among all vehicles regardless of brand. What that means is only non-turboed 500s are allowed (Sport, Pop, Lounge) with minimal modifications. Essentially all that is allowed is safety modifications (roll cage, racing bucket/harness, fire suppression system, window net). You are not allowed to touch the engine, drive-line, suspension (except for factory parts), or really anything else. You are allowed to gut the interior though, any 15×7 wheel, any tire up to 205/50/15 and specifically to the Fiat you can add a cold air intake. This is designed to keep entry and running costs low.

So here’s a very rough pricing breakdown:

• Base Fiat 500 Sport (2012 used): $9,000-$10,000
• Roll Cage and Safety Mods: ~$5,000-$6,000
• 15×7 Wheels (2 sets of 4): ~$1000
• Direzza ZII Star Spec: ~$600
• Hankook Ventus Z214 (slicks – medium compound): ~$900

Total Upfront Cost: ~$17,500
